Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Blacktown Festival of Performing Arts
It was great to be able to attend the Blacktown Festival of Performing Arts, held at Wyndham College Hall on Tuesday night. Our dancers, the Bad Guys and choir students were absolutely outstanding. Thank you to Mrs Harvey-Phillips for all your work coordinating our dance groups and choir and to Miss Gafa and Miss Rillera for supporting our students on the night.

Upcoming Events
PSA Schools Recognition Week 2025: 1st - 5th September
I would like to express my deep appreciation to our school Public Service Association (PSA) Staff, these include our School Office Staff, School Learning Support Offices (SLSO) and General Assistants (GAs).
BSPS’s Office Staff manage the huge range of administrative tasks for our students and families and staff, from enrolment, managing constant phone calls, making and managing school orders, photocopying, and caring for students who require first aid. They are the first vital point of contact for our families. Our School Learning Support Officer’s (SLSO) work in classrooms supporting students with additional needs and our General Assistants (GAs) work on grounds maintenance and a range of school and building maintenance jobs.
To our whole PSA team, a very big thanks for the amazing job that you do at BSPS.

Fathers’ Day Stall
Students will have the opportunity to buy gifts at the Fathers’ Day stall on 2nd September or the 3rd September (back-up date). Thank you to the P&C for organising this for our school community.

BSPS Fun Day
Blacktown South Public School will be holding our BSPS Fun Day in Week 10 of Term 3 this year.
Date: Wednesday 24th September
Year 6 Coordinating Activities & Stalls: Our Year 6 students will be coordinating and running many of the stalls, games and activities. This is a wonderful leadership opportunity for our Year 6 students and an opportunity for them to give something back to their fellow students.
Two Parts of the Day: The Fun Day will be run in two parts, Kindergarten to Year 2 before recess and Years 3 to Year 5 after recess. This will reduce the numbers of students involved and reduce wait times queuing for an activity.
Wrist Bands: The prepurchase of a wrist band for $10.00 will entitle students to unlimited goes at ‘game stalls’ run by the Year 6 students and one face-paint and one hair spray if desired.
For younger Preschool siblings – a $5.00 wrist band is available to be purchased on the day.
Please note: The wrist band does not include food stalls- Fairy Floss and Cans of Drink.
Food Vouchers: A limit of 2 at a cost of $4.00 can be pre-purchased with the wrist band. They will allow a student to collect two items – either two cans of drink, or two fairy floss or one fairy floss and one can of drink.
Additional food vouchers can be purchased on the day.
Sausage Sizzle Lunch: Is also available but must be pre-ordered by students.
The P & C will also be holding a Charity Fundraiser Bake Stall on the day and will be asking for donations of baked goods such as cupcakes, cookies, slices and muffins.
Parents and Caregivers are most welcome to join us for the day. Notes were sent home last week.

Attendance Matters
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. At Blacktown South Public School, we strive to work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of all our students. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier, and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Education in New South Wales is compulsory for all children between the ages of six years and below the minimum school leaving age of 17 years. The Education Act 1990 requires that parents ensure their children of compulsory school age are enrolled at and regularly attend school.
Once enrolled, children are required to attend school each day it is open for students.
Absences need to be explained by parents. If your child is absent, please send a note in on the day of return explaining their absence or contact the school through SZapp (our preferred absence communication). A note may be sent home asking the reason for your child’s absence if there has been no communication from home. Together we can work to achieving great attendance patterns and learning habits for all. #Attendance Matters. This year we are sending emails on the day of the absence. Please respond to this email to help keep accurate tracking of your child at school and reduce the number of unexplained absences.
Late arrivals and early leavers need a note to explain the absence as well. Partial attendance affects all aspects of learning for your child. Five minutes here and there may not seem a lot, but it adds up. Every minute counts when it comes to school. Let's work together to make every minute count. 100% of the school day, every day the school is operational.
Remember
#Attendance Matters.

PBL
Greetings readers,
Welcome to Week 6 and the PBL Team’s third newsletter article for Term 3.
Over the past two weeks, students at Blacktown South Public School have been working hard to raise awareness about bullying and help create a safe environment for all. It was wonderful to see so many students showing they are Safe Respectful Learners by embracing this year’s Bullying No Way Week theme: “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.”
A big congratulations to classes 3M, 3K, 2A, 2G, 1R, and 1G for sharing their pictures and actively participating in Anti-Bullying Week!
Well-done!

This fortnight, our PBL focus is on moving around the school sensibly. To help us reach this goal, we need to remember three important questions.
When Might We Need to Move Around the School?
There are many times when students need to move around the school, such as:
- Going to different classrooms for scripture
- Heading to the library
- Attending assemblies
- Going to the canteen to collect recess or lunch orders
- Taking part in class fitness activities
- Moving to and from the playground during recess and lunch
How Should We Move Around the School?
When moving as a class, we should walk in an orderly line and stay together as a group. It’s important to keep our voices low so we don’t disturb other classes, and we should always walk, not run, to keep everyone safe.
When moving with a partner, we should walk side by side and stay close together. We need to be quiet, respectful, and aware of those around us. Following these rules helps us all be Safe Respectful Learners.
Why Should We Move Around the School Sensibly?
Moving sensibly helps us:
- Keep everyone safe
- Maintain a calm and orderly school environment
- Show respect for others
- Prevent accidents
- Avoid disruptions to classes in session
- Care for our fellow students and staff
So, let us all follow these expectations on moving around the school sensibly and be Safe Respectful Learners!
Have a wonderful fortnight,
The PBL Team.
