Dear Parents and Caregivers,
BSPS Fun Day
What a wonderful day we all had on Wednesday at our Fun Day. A beautiful clear morning dawned for a lovely day of activities, games and fun.
Over 900 students, the staff and many parents enjoyed a great range of fun activities from face painting, coloured hair spray, fairy floss, drinks, sausage sizzle and a great range of carnival games.
Our wonderful school leaders, the Year 6 students, certainly rose to the occasion and did an outstanding job running the stalls on the day. Thank you to the many parents who joined us for the fun of the fair.
A special thank you to Mrs Price, Mr Lee-Eyles, Mrs Mussolum and the Year 6 teachers for the huge efforts coordinating the day. Also, a special thanks to our P&C parent volunteers.
Please check the photo gallery attached for a snapshot of the great fun we all enjoyed.

Attendance Matters
Research highlights a clear correlation between student attendance and the achievement of quality academic, socio-economic and health outcomes. This research tells us that students with an attendance rate below 90% are educationally at risk. Above 95% is the Department of Education’s expected student attendance.
At Blacktown South we strongly believe that every day a student attends school enhances their learning and wellbeing outcomes. Attendance every day the school is operational for students is our ultimate target. If we achieve this target, we make it possible for students to achieve success in all areas of their lives.
As a school community we need to work together to ensure that attendance is a priority, along with explanations for absences. As we enter the school holidays and return for Term 4, let’s all try to achieve an attendance rate that works to support success for our students. One day extra at school means one day more consolidation of foundational learning skills for life.
Remember #Attendance Matters.

PBL
Greetings readers,
Welcome to Week 10 and the PBL Team’s last newsletter article for Term 3.
Over the past two weeks, students at Blacktown South Public School have been learning the importance of wearing a hat at school. It was wonderful to see so many students wearing school hats every day and enjoying our time outdoors as Safe Respectful Learners.

Well-done!
Over the past few weeks at Blacktown South, we have been actively learning and practising important skills to help us become Safe Respectful Learners. As Term 3 comes to an end, let’s take a moment to review the key topics we have focused on:
1. Do the High Five Before Telling the Teacher
The High Five is a simple way to solve problems with friends or classmates. It helps students try to fix issues on their own before asking a teacher for help. The five steps are:
- Talk friendly
 - Ignore
 - Walk away
 - Talk firmly
 - Report to the teacher

Using the High Five encourages respect, confidence, and kindness in everyday situations, both in the classroom and on the playground.
2. Anti-Bullying Week – Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
During the National Week of Action Against Bullying, we raised awareness about what bullying is and how it can affect people. Bullying is repeated behaviour that hurts others, such as name-calling, pushing, or excluding someone. We also discussed why some people bully, often because of their own struggles. This year’s Bullying No Way Week theme, “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.”, reminded us that everyone can help stop bullying by standing up and being kind.
3. Moving Around the School Safely
We have been practising how to move around the school carefully and respectfully. Whether walking as a class or with a partner, students are reminded to:
- Walk quietly and in an orderly line
 - Keep voices low to avoid disturbing others
 - Walk, not run, to stay safe
 - Moving carefully helps keep everyone safe, shows respect for others, and keeps the school calm and peaceful.

4.Wearing School Hats
Wearing hats outside is very important for sun safety. Students need to wear their hats whenever they are outdoors—even on cloudy days—because the sun’s rays can still cause harm. Hats should be worn properly on the head, not carried in hands. Remember: “No hat, no play” means students without hats must stay in shaded areas like under the cola or at the Silver Seats during playtime.
Thank you to all our students and families for supporting these important lessons. By working together, we help make Blacktown South Public School a safe, respectful, and welcoming place for everyone. See you all in Term 4!
Have a safe holiday!
The PBL Team
Year 6
Year 6 has had a busy term preparing for the BSPS Fun Day. Every week students have spent countless hours creating posters, targets and props for their stalls. They have shown great responsibility and enthusiasm to ensure that their stalls were ready for Fun Day in Week 10.
Along with these preparations, we have also been busy practising our Year 6 Dance for the end of the year, which is looking to be one of the best dances. This is also on top of completing their Check In Assessments and their daily learning each week. We are preparing for another busy term in Term 4, with camp, bowling fun day, farewell, and graduation. The students are displaying our school expectations and proving they are great school leaders, as they get closer to the end of their primary school journey.

Year 5 STEM Experience
Welcome Parents and Carers to the Week 8 S.N.I.P Article.
We, the Blacktown South S.N.I.P Team, would like to inform you that STEM has been a growing subject for Enrichment and OC classes. Amazon invited 5H and 5R to an Immersion Day to learn more about robotics, infused with LEGO.
Their experience included learning about advanced robotics, and how robots, specifically humanoids and androids, work. They discovered how Hercules robots at the Amazon Centre use complex technology and algorithms to navigate paths to provide items which have been ordered.
As they first entered the building, the students were fascinated by the high-tech architecture that composed the Amazon Fulfilment Centre. They were welcomed warmly by the staff and were soon invited to a private educational room. 5H and 5R learned about Amazon, how it worked, and its history. They were especially intrigued and impressed by the way the Hercules robots worked, and how they carried pods of different products.
They took a well-led tour throughout the accessible areas of the centre and found out that Amazon was the size of 24 football fields! The students watched the Hercules robots in action, delivering various products to workers, who then shipped them on conveyor belts to undergo different processes before being shipped to the customer. They also got the exclusive experience of creating Amazon boxes and some people even got to ship them out!
After a filling recess, the students learned about robots and how they work, based on codes and algorithms. They attended a workshop about robotics and coding, and deduced their own codes to accomplish different tasks. The OC and Enrichment students used their LEGO Spike robots to drive, pick up pods, and place them down in different locations. They completed various challenges including these operations and, at the end of the workshop, they even got to race (the most chaotic part of the day). Alongside that, they learnt something very important - ‘I never lose. Either I win or I learn.’ - Nelson Mandela
Talin & Savithu
5H
“I was satisfied with the coding, and the donuts were brilliant.”
- Krishan Poudel
“The Hercules robots which carried the pods were very interesting and fun to look at.”
- Ranveer Singh
“I loved the Lego Spike as it was fun and interesting to play around and complete the challenges.”
- Heidi Lui
At the end of the day, after eating a brilliant catered lunch from the Amazon team, the students returned to school, happy, satisfied and more interested in robotics, having learned dozens of new interesting things about shipping companies and computer science.
They are excited to return and learn more about sophisticated coding and algorithms.
