Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Zone Athletics Carnival
Well done to all the students that represented our school at the Blacktown Zone Athletics Carnival on Thursday last week. Congratulations to the following students who will be progressing to the Sydney West Carnival on Tuesday 23rd September: Paityn, Bronte, Dominic, Prethyun, Zacharia and Joshua.
Thanks to Mr Lee-Eyles, Mr Emerson, Miss Rom and Mrs Medimurac for coordinating the team, and working as officials.

K-2 Sports Carnival
What a beautiful day the K-2 students and teachers enjoyed on Monday 1st September for the K-2 Sports Carnival. Students had a terrific day rotating through their races, novelty events and modified field events. A big thanks to Mrs Lee-Seok and Mrs Hurst for their efforts in making this day so successful and so much fun for all our students.

Premier’s Debating
Our Debaters were successful in their debate against Greystanes Public School last week and now progress to the Regional Final against Kurrajong Public School today. We wish Mrs Sykes and our debating team the very best, as they tackle the next round of challenging teams.
Festival of Instrumental Music
Eleven wonderful recorder players from our Recorder Group performed as part of the Combined Recorder Ensemble at the Opera House on Monday 8th September, at the Festival of Instrumental Music (FOIM). It was such an amazing event. Thanks to Mrs Gabutero and Miss Rooney for teaching our recorder students and for coordinating them at this amazing festival. A special thanks to the many parents who supported and attended. An amazing evening of entertainment. This event finalises our involvement with the FOIM – strings and recorder groups for the year. Well done to all students.

Little Library
Our second ‘Little Library’ for our Pre-schoolers’ and their families was held last Friday. Boys and girls enjoyed some craft, songs and a story.
Due to popular demand, we will be holding an extra ‘Little Library’ session, early next term on Friday the 17th October. A flyer will be attached to the next newsletter.
Fathers’ Day Stall
A very big thanks to the P&C and their many volunteers who ran a very successful Fathers’ Day stall last week. I hope all fathers had a wonderful Fathers’ Day on Sunday.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Students have been given an additional four weeks to complete the reading challenge this year. The new student deadline is Friday, 19th September 2025 (Week 9, Term 3). Please see the attached note which outlines the process for recording books read during the challenge.
BSPS Fun Day – Only one and half weeks to go!
Blacktown South Public School will be holding our BSPS Fun Day on Wednesday 24th September - Week 10.
Please purchase your wrist bands and food vouchers and sausage sizzle NOW.
Year 6 Coordinating Activities & Stalls: Our Year 6 students will be coordinating and running many of the stalls, games and activities. This is a wonderful leadership opportunity for our Year 6 students and an opportunity for them to give something back to their fellow students. Year 6 students DO NOT need to purchase a wrist band.
Two Parts of the Day: The Token Fun Day will be run in two parts, Kindergarten to Year 2 before recess and Years 3 to Year 5 after recess. This will reduce the numbers of students involved and reduce wait times queuing for an activity.
Wrist Bands: The prepurchase of a wrist band for $10.00 will entitle students to unlimited goes at ‘game stalls’ run by the Year 6 students and one face-paint and one hair spray if desired.
For younger Preschool siblings – a $5.00 wrist band is available to be purchased on the day.
Please note: The wrist band does not include food stalls - Fairy Floss and Cans of Drink.
Food Vouchers: A limit of 2 at a cost of $4.00 can be pre-purchased with the wrist band. They will allow a student to collect two items – either two cans of drink, or two fairy floss or one fairy floss and one can of drink.
Additional food vouchers can be purchased on the day.
Sausage Sizzle Lunch: Is all so available but must be pre-ordered by students.
Parents and Caregivers are most welcome to join us for the day.

Attendance Matters
On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:
- Being sick, or having an infectious disease
- Having an unavoidable medical appointment
- Being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- Exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g. attending a funeral)
If your child is absent and you have not notified the school the reason for absence, an email will be sent home asking for a reason for the absence. Please respond to this email by contacting the school or using sZapp, (our preferred option.)
NSW Department of Education expects that following an absence from school you must ensure that within 7 days you provide your child’s school with a verbal or written explanation for the absence. However, if the school has not received an explanation from you within 2 days, the school may contact you to discuss the absence.
Please send in the notification via the school app sZapp (our preferred option), a handwritten note or phone call to the office after 8.30am and before 3.00pm daily. We are trying to ensure all absences are explained to avoid having to send home reminders and having missed communication. Your assistance in helping to keep our records accurate is greatly appreciated.

#Attendance Matters.

PBL
Greetings readers,
Welcome to Week 8 and the PBL Team’s fourth newsletter article for Term 3.
Over the past two weeks, students at Blacktown South Public School have been practising moving around the school sensibly. It was wonderful to see so many students showing they are Safe Respectful Learners by moving carefully both as a whole class and with a partner.
Well-done!
This fortnight, our PBL focus is on the importance of wearing a hat at school. To help us remember why this is important, let’s look at three key questions.
When Do We Need to Wear a Hat?
Students need to wear their hats any time they are outside—even when it’s cloudy, because the sun can still be harmful. Hats should be worn properly on the head, not carried in your hands. Remember, your hat is for protecting your head from the sun!
Why Do We Need to Wear a Hat?
Wearing a hat is all about sun safety. It helps protect us from getting sunburnt and keeps us safe from the harmful effects of the sun. By wearing a hat, we are looking after our health and being responsible.
What Happens If We Don’t Wear a Hat?

If you don’t have your hat, it’s “no hat, no play.” This means you cannot play in the playground and must stay under the cola or in the silver seats area. Wearing a hat lets you join in all the fun outdoor activities.
So, let’s all remember to wear our hats every day so we can stay safe, healthy, and enjoy our time outdoors as Safe Respectful Learners! You can do it Blacktown South!
Have a wonderful fortnight,
The PBL Team.
Year 4
This term in CAPA, Year 4 have been learning all about dance. In groups, we explored a variety of choreographic techniques, experimenting with movement, shapes, levels, and dynamics. We've had a lot of fun collaborating, sharing ideas, and building on each other's creativity to compose interesting and engaging dance phrases. It’s been exciting to see how our ideas come to life through movement, and we've learned how to express ourselves while working as a team. Our performances have not only been fun to create but also enjoyable to watch!

Kindergarten Farm Excursion
Last week Kindergarten students from KG, KOS, KH, KE, and KT enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Golden Ridge Animal Farm. The day was filled with hands on learning experiences that brought our classroom lessons to life.
Students were delighted to meet and feed a variety of farm animals including cows, goats, sheep and chickens. They even had the chance to try their hand at milking a cow and were fascinated to learn where milk comes from and the many products it is used for. Holding baby ducklings and feeding baby goats were the highlights of the day with many students proudly sharing their bravery and gentle care.
The excursion also gave children the chance to learn about different animals what they eat and how they live such as pigs using mud as sunscreen. It was so much fun and sparked curiosity while strengthening students’ understanding of living things and the world around them.
A big thank you to all those who helped make the day such a memorable learning experience for our students.

Stage 3 Chess Tournament
In Weeks 6 and 7, the SRC ran a Stage 3 Chess Tournament with 32 Year 5 and 6 students competing in a knockout-style competition. After several rounds, the grand final was played between Hemish Aggarwal (4/5R) and Christo Jacob (6D). Both students played well, but Christo won the match and was named the Stage 3 Chess Champion.
Thank you to the SRC for organising and helping to run the tournament.
